Egyszer volt, hol nem volt…Once upon a time….
Welcome to the storytelling portfolio website of the Hungarian storyteller, Boglárka Klitsie-Szabad

“As a storyteller, Bogi is extremely talented, witty, layered and approaches each topic in an original way. It is a real pleasure to watch her because her performances always surprise the audience and put them in a mood that suits the story. She tells stories in a very intelligent way and is great at all topics and types of stories. A treat for the eyes and ears.” Dijana Zoric storyteller, organizer of Storying, International Storytelling Festival Zagreb.
I am an ethnographist, storyteller, wife and a mother of two little boys. I love to tell folk tales, and lately pieces of oral history in Hungarian and in English. I am working at the Hungarian Heritage House as an oral
storyteller specialist. In 2019 I received the Prima Junior price for my activities in the field of
storytelling and achievements for teaching this traditional art. At the same year I became a Young Master of Folk Arts. I am the president of the Meseszó Association (It is a Hungarian traditional storyteller assosiation NGO). In 2017 I was one of the 12 storytellers choosen by FEST (Federation for European Storytelling) for “Young Storyteller” scholarship. I have spent 6 years with collecting and studying the repertoaire of a traditional roma storyteller in North-Hungary (Arló village). The book, what I have been writing together with the folklorist Norbert Varga about the storyteller Vilmos Csipkés’s art was published in 2022.

“She performed at our storytelling festival Carousel of Stories in 2019. She amazed all the public with her charisma as well as her strong stories and its professional presentation. It was pleasure to host her in České Budějovice and I hope it was not for the last time.”
Michala Piskačová,Verbarium association, founder and director of the Carousel od Stories Festival….

I love to share the folk tales what I have collected during my fieldworks and stories which found me in other ways. To share my heritage is my passion. I consider myself as a true “homo narrans” who loves to perform. If you would like to listen to my tales or want to say hi, please get in touch!
→ Hungarian folk tales in English
I have been telling tales since 2016. Since that year I also practice this art both in English and Hungarian….
→ Experience
I have been telling tales in Croatia, The Czech Republic, Scotland, USA, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, Belgium and of course in Hungary….
→I have embraced them
It is a storytelling show what I created together with Maja Bumberák. It builds on various genres: family history, personal stories, folktales, legends and songs are woven into each other, creating a tapestry of women’s stories.
One of the things that makes the performance unique is that some of the stories we tell are based on oral history interviews we made with our own grandmothers.

→ The invisible beauty of acceptance
The world around us is a set of impressions, stimuli, new and old images, – and deep down – memories. A reflection – of the mirror – is something that, although it seems unchanged for a long time, is constantly evolving. What do we do with these pictures? How do we look at our own face in the mirror? Is the individual able to “create order” among the important or seemingly insignificant moments of the past? Is there anything worth changing? Is it possible to beautify or improve a given moment? Boglárka Klitsie-Szabad searches for the answers to the questions above through personal stories, reminiscences and folklore texts in her first independent storytelling program.
